Description: This is a beginning course open to students with a sincere interest in singing. This course covers music theory, basic terminology and performance techniques. All chorus students are required to participate in performance in order to receive credit.

Prerequisite: Teacher approval

Description: This is a continuation of the foundation developed in Chorus I. Students will be expected to explore the concepts of music such as harmony, form, tempo, dynamics and sight - singing. Students will be required to participate in local as well as state - wide contests in solo and ensemble groupings. Emphasis will be placed on aesthetic perception, creative expression, aesthetic valuing and musical heritage. Students are required to participate in performances in order to receive credit.

 

354930 Advanced Chorus
Prerequisite: Teacher approval
1/2 Unit

Description: These advanced courses for students who have learned to sight-read music for mastery of harmony and voice part. Students will continue to develop music theory skills as well as performance skills. This is a performing group. Students will participate in local, state, and in-school performances and any other performances at the director's discretion. To develop the musical level of maturity through ensemble experience is a priority in this course. Students are required to participate in performances in order to receive credit.

Prerequisite: Teacher approval

Description: This course is designed for students who wish to play a tuned percussion instrument Students will explore theory as well as technology as they master these skills. There is much individualized instruction in this course so dedication and practice is a must. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to compose, analyze, compare and contrast music from a variety of styles and periods.

Description: A continuation of Instrumental Instruction I. It offers beginners a continuation of music theory and the mechanics of playing their instruments. It concentrates on performance etiquette and technique. Performance participation is required.

Description: This course offers more advanced musicians a foundation in Jazz and improvisation. It concentrates on performance etiquette and technique, as well as introducing foundations of composition. Performances are required.

Prerequisite: Must have completed Jazz I
1/2 Unit

Description: A continuation of Jazz Ensemble I with an emphasis on solo improvisation and composition. Performance is required.

 

452000CH Lyrics & Songwriting
Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation
1/2 Unit

Description: This course is devoted to the development of a student's ability to write and produce a song or instrumental for the spring production. Students will be taught the fundamentals and will use their talent to develop the song.
